Pastor Brian R. Thompson, Sr. was born November 1, 1968, in Chapel Hill, NC. He was educated in the Chatham County and continued his education at Saint Augustine’s College in Raleigh, NC, where he completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication in 1991. He continued his education at Duke Divinity School in 1999 and is currently attending United Theological Seminary. After graduation, he was employed as a Pharmaceutical Representative with Bristol Myers in Pittsburgh, PA, and later as a Senior Account Executive with Alltel Communications in Cary, NC. Pastor Thompson is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
He accepted his call to the ministry on August 10, 1993. He received his first charge in June 1994 and was ordained an Elder in 1996. In November of 2001, he was appointed to Simon Temple African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, where he currently serves as their full time pastor.
God has blessed Simon Temple to become one of the fastest growing churches in Zion, over 3,000 souls have been led to the Lord and more than 4,400 have joined the church under his leadership. The church has a current membership of over 4,500. On Easter Sunday of 2014, we began worshipping in our current sanctuary that has a capacity of 1,500.
Pastor Thompson serves as the Presiding Elder of the St. Croix District of the US Virgin Islands Conference.
Pastor Thompson was named Minister of the Year 2009 by the Fayetteville, North Carolina, Cumberland County Human Relations Commission.
He is married to Rev. Felica Raines Thompson; and is the proud father of two healthy miracles from God – Alexis (12) and Brian II (11).
Pastor Thompson is very committed to his calling and to the ministry that God has allowed him to do. His motto in the ministry is Romans 12:1, “Present your body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” He challenges everyone with the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “If a man has not found something to die for, he is not fit to live.”
